Passengers’ preferences for architectural design characteristics in the design of airport terminals

With the need to increase total revenues, airports have begun use commercial retail. A well-designed airport may provide great service clients and consumers their satisfaction in turn spending behaviours. Since there is suggestive evidence that might be cultural associations of white, purple or black with different emotional loadings these colours across cultures, present study investigated passengers’ preferences for architectural design characteristics an a new setting. Discrete choice modelling was used measure 10 interior passenger terminal using 3D renderings. Data on 435 passengers were collected at Mehrabad International Airport, which also included emotions. Passengers hall preferred curved transparent ceiling, material warm colours, cool lighting, low width height, greenery without any decorations. When compared other studies, it well lighting certain colour schemes reflect geographical differences. For characteristics, relating shape ceiling amount daylight, as presence greenery, reflections restorative needs.
